Casper Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 3.
When Black Hills Energy heard of the increased need for funding to build more homes in 2019, they increased their support of Habitat for Humanity through a $1,500 grant. The funding will help address the continued need of families applying for homes, as the response has been greater than Habitat’s ability to serve.
Previously, one to two in-fill homes were being built per year by Habitat. With the implementation of the Harris Crossing Subdivision, the construction of four homes per year will be standard for the organization. This scale of building produces a sustainable model for the local area, aiming to create a reliable and recurring solution to the lack of affordable housing in Casper.
“Black Hills Energy has been a strong supporter of our organization’s work,” said Heidi Maldoon, Habitat for Humanity’s Executive Director. “Since we began working with Black Hills Energy, they’ve been eager to give to our vision of expanding affordable housing. Because of their recurring support, funding for the construction of homes is possible.”
The generous donation will support the Harris Crossing Subdivision, which will house 13 families in the community. Two homes at the development have been completed, with an additional two houses currently under construction. Habitat for Humanity will be seeking applicants for the additional lots at Harris Crossing and welcomes interested individuals and families to contact Kelly Cooper, Program Manager, atKelly@heartofwyoming.orgfor more information on applying during the Winter Application Cycle open January 2, 2019.
