Gov. Doug Ducey proclaimed April 5 as Rose Mofford Day in memory of Arizona's first woman governor.
Mofford, the 18th governor of the state, was sworn into the position on April 5, 1988. Rose Mofford Day marked the 30th anniversary of her inauguration.
“Today marks 30 years since a true trailblazer shattered the glass ceiling through all nine floors of the Executive Tower, right up to the Governor’s Office,” Ducey said. “Rose Mofford didn’t set out to be a role model; but she became one. Today we honor her legacy and pioneering spirit.”
Mofford served the people of Arizona with a career of 51 years in the state government and multiple pioneering achievements, including becoming Arizona's first female secretary of state in 1977.
